Dear HRA Families and Friends,
Another wonderful week at Holy Rosary Academy is finished and we are nearing the finish line for the school year. The second through ninth graders did well on their final SCANTRON testing. The results will be coming home to you shortly. We enjoyed increases in the Language Arts, Reading, and Math in almost every student in almost every grade. This test helps us to determine against a national norm whether we are preparing our students in a timely and appropriate fashion. Bravo Knights.
Our Knights also did well in their last track meet. Special acknowledgement goes to Michael Lucas, Luke Mouracade, John Cosgrave, and Mary Tappel who all placed in their categories. More details will follow next week after the students have completed their State Tournament Meet happening this weekend at Goldenview Middle School. We hope the students have a wonderful competition and come home with some awards. I look forward to documenting their successes. In the meantime, I thank Dr. John Mouracade for coaching the team and for Mrs. Maureen Klump for coordinating the practices and meets. May you both be blessed for your sacrifices on our behalf.
The May Day Marian Crowning was simply wonderful this week. Miss Alyssa Albers (2nd grade) wore her First Communion dress and placed the flower crown made by teacher, Miss Patricia Verreux, upon the head of Our Lady as the student body sang the Ave Maria, prayed the rosary, presented flowers, sang the Regina Caeli and concluded with a song they had been practicing for choir, As I Kneel Before You. Fr. Augustine Highlander O.P. and Fr. James Barrand graciously joined us and concluded with a blessing and a song honoring St. Joseph the Worker whose feast day it was. These events are what make HRA such a truly beautiful place for the children to grow in piety. Thank you to Mrs. Shaut for making all the arrangements and Mrs. Schirda for supplying the flowers. May we continue to shower Our Lady with our love and devotion in this her special month!
The week finished with the kindergarten enjoying a spectacular field trip to climb in and out of airplanes at Elmendorf thanks to the generosity and guidance of First. Ltnt. Skinbinski (father of kindergartner, Vivian). The kindergartners and their teacher could not have enjoyed anything more.
Thank you to Mrs.Cynthia Geiermann and Mrs. Karin Owens for organizing the Charity Walk fundraiser and to all 36 families who joined us! Mrs. Schirda and I went and had a wonderful evening of cuisine as we walked downtown. We finished at the WOW raffle and were able to enjoy sitting with HRA families while we eagerly hoped to win prizes. Mrs. Mary Ann Cosgrave (mother of 8th grader, John) came away with an $840.00 gift certificate for Windsong Hotel and Seward activities. Congratulations to her. I will report next week on what the fundraiser garnered for the Parent Association for next year. Again, thank you to all the participants and donors who supported this event.
Prom is this evening. Thank you to Mr. Tobia who helped set up for sound and to seniors Michelle Tobia and Margarita Drews and their mothers for cooking and completing all of the set up for this lovely event. Most of the 7-12 students will be in attendance. The wonderful faculty will be chaperoning. The teachers look forward to this joyful event when the students celebrate the seniors and let loose (with swing, waltz, and line dancing) in this culminating dance of the year. The seniors did a wonderful job and should be commended for once again finding a suitable venue and financing a dance to be enjoyed by the entire upper school.
