Dear HRA Family and Friends,
What a lovely summer we are enjoying thus far. The consecutive days of sunshine remind me of my growing up years in California. In Alaska, however, I appreciate the sunny days so much more.
I am checking in with you to say hello and to let you know that Miss DiCiero, Miss Shanstrom, and I have just mailed to you the school report cards, test results from Scantron (for Grades 2 – 9), your final tuition bill for the year, and your share hour standing for the year. It took a little while to put all of the information together. Do know that we welcome your phone calls for clarifications to any of the work we have sent you. We hope that all is clear and accurate!
All has been quiet here at HRA. It has allowed me to have the classroom rugs steam cleaned. I owe a huge thank you to our own HRA junior, Jessica Smith, and her fellow Mormon Conference Attendees (60 of them) who came on Saturday, May 25th to help me landscape the school, clean windows, weed, remove furniture from the classrooms, stain the side fence, and sweep the parking lots. They were the very nicest young people and worked hard the entire two hours. Thank you, Jessica, for volunteering them do their community service at HRA. You exemplified ecumenism at its very finest. Bless you!
I must also thank the eighteen students from the Alaska Catholic Youth Conference who came to continue cleaning the campus and who put the furniture back into the classrooms after a thorough cleaning of the rugs. Led by current graduates, Michael Tappel and Jamie Cookson, many HRA students as well as other ACYC attendees worked very hard for three hours putting the school back together again. Thank you one and all for all of the help!
Much good work continues to happen on the campus. I am completing the year long calendar and hope to have it uploaded to the online calendar by the end of the week. I hope it will help you to plan for next year. Further, we have updated our current rules and regulations and will upload those onto our website as well. There have been some small additions and modifications you might enjoy reading.
HRA is open Monday through Friday from 9-12 P.M. each day. Miss DiCiero will be answering phones and working in the front office during that time. Miss Shanstrom will be on campus and available for any appointments until June 30th. Miss Neumayr is available for meetings and phone calls at your request. Often I am here between the hours of 11 A.M. and 6 P.M. Do not hesitate to leave a message on my phone as I pick them up each day. I will be on vacation but stopping in for messages the week of June 24th – June 28th. I will be out of the state the last week of July, from July 25th – July 31st. I will continue to check in with the office should you need to speak with me.
It is my pleasure to announce that our current Office Manager, Miss Danielle DiCiero, has graciously agreed to take over the position as Business Manager beginning July 1, 2013. She will be contacting each of you to firm up tuition payment plans during the month of July if you have not already made arrangements. She is very excited about this new position and plans to make herself readily available to meet all your needs. She will be moving on campus and living in one of our apartments this upcoming year to make herself available to meet with you in the evenings should you need to make special arrangements. Thank you, Miss DiCiero, for all that you do for HRA!
Our Lady has blessed us with a young, excited, recent graduate who will be coming from Arizona August 1st to become our new Office Manager and Athletic Director assistant to Mrs. Maureen Klump. I met Jordan Brittain at Thomas Aquinas College in February and hoped I could find a spot for her on campus for this coming year. She is a bright, vivacious, musically talented, sporty young lady who loves the prospect of adventure in Alaska. As one of eleven children and a devout Catholic, she will have the true spirit and flexibility to fit in beautifully here at HRA. I look forward to introducing you to Miss Brittain at the beginning of the year.
SHARE HOUR OPPORTUNITIES
For anyone unable to complete share hours before the end of the school year, I have summer projects that could help you finish up. Coming up this week, I have need of helpers to pull up rugs, paint, and help move furniture in two of our apartment units. If you would like to help, call Miss DiCiero at 276-5822 and indicate when you are able to volunteer your time.
Further, I have need of regulars to help me clean the restrooms and vacuum the floors in the Kolbe Building as our custodial crew is on vacation through the summer. If anyone would like to set up regular hours each week to help us with general cleaning, we would all be most grateful.
Finally, I will have need of painters to help touch up some of the rooms and the fences if that is your special talent. Do indicate when you can be available.
I want to thank the many parents who completed all of their share hours and gave even more throughout the year. It was the best year of share hour completion in the history of the school! Bravo and thank you.
- Share hour cleaning of two apartments. Week of June 17th.
- Open House, August 7th from 6-9 P.M. Students and Parents encouraged to attend to help give tours.
- New Parent Orientation, Monday, August 12th from 6:30 – 8 P.M. in the Kolbe Lobby. Babysitting provided.
Know that I love to see any and all of our HRA students, parents, and friends. Come by anytime to say hello.
I will continue to write to you throughout the summer as events warrant. Until then, enjoy your summer break.
Miss Neumayr, Principal
P.S. I have many people to thank for the end of the year festivities. That will be next blog.
