One of our first graders complained of feeling unwell yesterday. He vomited and began to have a very high fever. The parents noticed a spreading rash on his back and chest and took him to his doctor immediately. He was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever and is on antibiotics. His sister was not infected though she has been put on antibiotics as well.
Here at HRA, we will be using the utmost caution. Any student complaining of a stomach ache or vomiting will be sent home immediately. Please keep a close eye on your child for fever or rashes.
We are sorry to alarm you with this news and hope that it has been caught and dealt with in time. Further, the flu season is upon us and the symptoms mirror those of the deadly virus in 2009. Please exercise extreme caution. This is a time when the students touching their hands to their eyes should be discouraged, noses should be wiped, and glasses/drinks should not be shared. We will have the students wash their hands more vigilantly than ever during this season.
Thank you for all you can do to keep your child home if he or she exhibits signs of a cold or fever.
