Dear Holy Rosary Academy parents and friends,
Thank you so much for your attendance at the Parent Association Meeting this week! We had the best attendance (41 out of 54 families) in the history of the school! It gave us a chance to hand out raffle tickets for all those who have an obligation to sell them and a chance to give out our family directory (only those who wished to participate are included) and a chance to give the parents the password to Sycamore Solutions to check student assignments and grades. If any parent has not received their packet, please stop by the office. We will not send home the password with the students. We have, however, sent home the minutes from the meeting as well as news about our Krispy Kreme efforts for next week and our escrip opportunity. Please bring your Carr’s card into the office so that we can sign you up. It costs you nothing but can garner us some much needed help.
The week was another smooth and harmonious one. The students are already deep into their studies and impressing me by their appetite for learning. We enjoyed a lovely all school mass led by one of our Dominican chaplains, Fr. Paul Raftery. He mentioned that he has heard that HRA is the “finest school in Anchorage.” I concur!
The upper school soccer team competed well against Lumen Christi this week. Jamie Cookson scored the first goal of the season for the HRA Knights. Keep it up team!
Next week promises to be another great week. We begin with a day off to honor Labor Day. Tuesday, our own dear priest, Fr. James Barrand will be offering mass. He will be saying mass at Holy Rosary Academy every Tuesday in the chapel. Each week the Dominicans will also come. This allows us to have mass in the chapel and split K-6 with 7-12. We are so grateful to the priests who can bring us the sacraments.
The fifth grade is planning a field trip to the Nature Center in Eagle River next Wednesday. Have a great time.
Mr. Shaut is so improved that it is looking like he may be able to come home this weekend. We hope to see him around school as soon as God wills. We are praying for you, Mr. Shaut.
Parent Alert: Back to School Night is this coming Thursday, September 6th. The program will begin at 7 P.M. Elementary parents are welcome to stop in to their child’s classroom anytime. The 7-12 parents are encouraged to arrive by 7 P.M. so that they can start a mock class day. You will follow your child’s schedule throughout the day. Classes will be five minutes instead of 50 minutes but will help you to understand more of what is expected of your child. The teachers will be available until 9 P.M. to answer your questions. We look forward to seeing all of our parents.
I am off to Moscow, Idaho for the wedding of alumna, Rebecca Klump, who attended HRA for twelve years. What a blessed event.
I always look forward to visiting with all of you parents and friends of the school. Stop into my office to say hello anytime.
Catherine Neumayr, Principal
