Dear HRA Family and Friends,
The end of the second week of school has come so quickly. It has been a smooth and enjoyable first two weeks. I have many people to thank for the smoothness of the week.
I must thank my Office Manager, Jordan Brittain, and my Business Manager, Danielle DiCiero. Both have worked tirelessly in the last two weeks to be sure to meet all of your needs and answer your questions. I am so grateful for their kindness and concern for each student and parent who crosses the front office threshold. Bless you both for your service.
For those who came to the Parent Association Meeting last Monday, August 26th, please know that the hard work of the Parent Association Team of Lisa Cookson, Rosa Salazar-Sanchez, Jen Dooc, and Karin Owens helped to make the evening informative and enjoyable. They worked tirelessly to set up, provide food, and provide the best information they could to help you feel comfortable about your responsibilities for the year. Thank you to Marcie Koop who filled you in on ESCRIP and to Jacki Rose who will gladly assist you with your auction questions. I am excited for a great year. Thank you so much Lisa, Rosa, Jen, Karin, Marci, and Jacki!
Our new kindergarten teacher, Mrs. LouAnn Verbout has been visiting her three daughters this past week and I have our former principal and teacher, Mrs. Barbara Doerner, and her assistants, Mrs. Kathy Tappel and Mrs. Roberta Zipay to thank for substituting in order for Mrs. Verbout to see her family. I cannot thank these three women enough for keeping the kindergartners happy and healthy throughout the week. We look forward to welcoming Mrs. Verbout back to school Tuesday afternoon. We are blessed to have Mrs. Doerner as our number one substitute teacher for the coming year. Welcome back to HRA, Mrs. Doerner!
The junior varsity and varsity soccer teams are off to a great start with the help of coaches, Robby Cookson (cousin to Jamie, Lee, and Andrew) and Patrick Klump (brother to Justin and Monica). The HRA Varsity team defeated Lumen Christi High School for the first time in our history last Monday 4-1! The JV team went on to defeat Anchorage Lutheran School in a scrimmage. Varsity captains, Justin Klump, Jacob Owens, and Lee Cookson are leading the Knights towards a great season! Thanks, as always, to Mrs. Maureen Klump who selflessly paints the lines, drives the team, and coordinates the fields and games on our behalf. I can’t wait to attend my first game this upcoming week!
Thursday’s school mass was not only beautiful because of the singing led by our new choir master, Mrs. Colleen Duncan, but because our Dominican chaplain, Fr. Anthony Patalano, conferred the beautiful sacrament of baptism on two of our elementary students, Mr. Christopher Sanchez of the first grade and Miss Rae Sanchez of kindergarten. Both students stood tall and proud as Fr. Anthony blessed them with water and chrism oil and held their candles with maturity and grace as they stood by their happy parents who proudly assented to their baptism. Welcome to the Christian Family, Christopher and Rae! May your days be filled with the grace of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
Finally, thank you to Mrs. Erin Furby and the science teachers in the upper school for introducing the students to the Science Fair procedures this past Friday afternoon and for acquainting them with the steps to determine their topic as they begin the Science Fair Project process. The Fair will be in March, but early preparation helps the students to have plenty of time to give their best to the effort in a timely way.
