Dear HRA families and friends,
Welcome packets are being sent to your homes this Monday, August 6th. I have copied the opening letter onto this blog so that you can begin to see what to expect for the coming year. If any student or parent would like to join me to help with the Open House this Tuesday, August 7th, please come from 6-9. There are always last minute maintenance jobs to complete on campus should any parent/student wish to begin completing share hours. In the meantime, stay dry and enjoy the rest of your summer.
Here is the copy of the cover letter that will be included in your Welcome Back packet being mailed this Monday.
August 6, 2012
Dear New and Returning HRA Families:
The 2012-13 school year is rapidly approaching. I look forward to welcoming you back. Much has been done in preparation for your arrival. The welcome packet is full of information that should answer many of your questions. Please enjoy looking over the class schedules and pullout schedules along with the year-long calendar and the supply lists. Be sure to note the handouts alerting you to the used uniform sale, new parent orientation, and the Parent Association opening meeting, August 28th. Finally, please consult the share hour handout in order to begin to plot out ways to complete your obligation comfortably throughout the year.
You may have noticed that some names on the class schedules have been changed. Mr. Tim Main, our beloved sixth grade teacher and Assistant Principal, will be leaving us to adventure deeper into the Arctic by teaching in St. Michael’s. His replacement, Miss Selene Viens, is excited to bring her wit and wisdom to the school. Though raised here in Alaska, she has most recently completed her Masters in Theology from the International Theological Institute in Gaming, Austria. She will maintain the fine sixth grade program that Mr. Main has so beautifully pioneered.
There will be two more new faces for you to meet upon your arrival as well. Mr. Louis Bolin will round out the high school faculty. He was raised in Idaho but has recently finished his licentiate in theology at the same school as Miss Viens. He brings his love for the classical languages, literature, math, and sciences to us. He will teach our first ever Latin IV class! Finally, we have a new business manager, Miss Marisa Shanstrom, who will fill Mr. Fleming’s generous shoes by coordinating all the financial information for the school (tuition, auction, raffle, centurion, insurance, salaries, maintenance, rentals, and donations). Do plan to stop by the front office to meet her. She will gladly sit down with you to discuss tuition plans or financial questions. Thankfully, Mr. Fleming will remain as a new Board member!
Thanks to the Tobia, Smith, Cookson, Fuller, Fouch, Droege, and Doerry families for all their assistance with the campus maintenance! The lawns, bushes, fences, and flowers look great! The Kolbe building has newly painted trim around the windows and new stairs outside each of the external doors. The high school interior has enjoyed touch-up paint where needed. The sheds and St. Bernadette building have been cleaned out and put in good order. All classroom carpets have been professionally cleaned. Some fence work and painting has yet to be done. Otherwise, we are ready for the year to begin.
Please plan to consult the school website (hraak.com) throughout the year. I will put out a blog of announcements each week under About Us in the Principal’s Corner. Further, the online calendar is being updated daily and should help you keep up with the day-to-day occurrences at HRA. The school has purchased a new program called Sycamore Leaf Solutions to provide online parental and student access to homework, daily grades, and teacher correspondence. We hope that this program will continue to keep the parents well informed.
I look forward to seeing you on August 20, 2012. Enjoy the rest of summer!
In Christ Under the Guidance of His Mother,
Miss Catherine Neumayr, Principal
