Dear Seniors,
Reflecting upon the experiences of the class of 2020 the central events that came to my mind are the earthquake in 2018, the quarantine in 2020 and our discussions in Modern Seminar. In life there will be moments of transition and change; and moments of great confusion and trauma. You will feel as if the earth is crumbling all around you; and the certainties that we thought we knew will appear uncertain. The qualities which you learned and lived here at Holy Rosary Academy will carry you through these times; faith, reason, and charity.
During moments of hardship turn to God. He will not abandon you. Call on him and trust him to answer. Like the priest in The Power and the Glory the moments which seem as if you have been the most abandoned will become the moments of glory and intimacy with your Savior.
Secondly, rely on the gifts of reason, logic and sound judgement. Use the gifts of discernment and reason which you have been so assiduously taught here. Unlike Leontis in The Winter’s Tale or Meursault in The Stranger learn to temper your passions with wisdom, and calm your doubts with reason. Use the wisdom you have been taught in discernment and it will lead you to true peace and joy.
Finally choose charity. The genuine love, and respect which you demonstrated in the classroom is life giving – carry that charity out into the world. Go forward living courageously and faithfully with the gifts of Faith, Reason and Charity.
May God bless you abundantly and may Our Lady of the Rosary protect you always.
